Paving slabbed driveways
Paving slabs / Flag stones are an extremely stylish way of covering areas of your property with a level, hard wearing surface, that's pleasing on both the eye and your bank balance.
Paving slabs
When paving for driveways and patios the best and most common option is to use paving slabs, providing a comprehensive range of choice in style, colour, pattern and finish.
There are two very distinct types of flagstone. There are those manufactured from concrete, and then there are those manufactured from natural stone. These two groups have quite different characteristics:
Concrete
Some companies will cut costs by using cheap quality 20mm stones, we only every use 30 or 40mm, to ensure durability.
Natural stone
Wet-cast concrete flagstones are the budget or economy slabs and are rarely suitable. These products tend to have a low cement content and are specifically manufactured to a price rather than quality.
Pressed concrete flagstones were never intended to carry vehicles, even if the vehicle is rarely used.
BS flagstones and high-end pressed concrete flags are usually best.
The better quality wet-cast or pressed concrete flags from top-end manufacturers are normally satisfactory, but it's always worth checking with them first.
